A fascinating one-day tour to Shamakhi and Lahij is a journey deep into Azerbaijan, both geographically and historically. If travel to the west, just 120 km from Baku, you will get to the ancient city Shamakhi, the history of which goes back 1500 years. Here you will see Muslim's sights, and learn a lot about the history of the region. Then you will travel to the mountain village Lahij, which is famous for its special local charm and workshops, where local craftsmen make various souvenirs and household items, the production technology of which is passing down from generation to generation. This non-trivial one-day tour to Shamahi and Lahij will open all the directions of Azerbaijani culture to you.
Tour program:
Baku – Shamakhi – Lahij – Baku
Tour guide and driver will meet you at the hotel. Departure from the city to the mountain village Lahij. On the way the stop at Diri-Baba Mausoleum-Mosque in Maraza village. The next trip is to Shamakhi city, where you will see the historical Juma Mosque and Yeddi Gumbas (Seven Domes) mausoleum, which is the Tomb of Shirvanshahs. Towards midday we will arrive at the historical and architectural attraction Lahij village that was built in the canyon of the Girdimanchay River (Upper Caucasus) in the 5thcentury A.D. There are survived old mosques, medieval water supply and sewerage system on this territory. Wandering through the narrow paved streets of Lahij, don't miss workshops, where local people from generation to generation make handicrafts such as carpets, brasses, daggers and etc.
